"Durham Cathedral Commission"
180x120cm acrylic on canvas
When asked to paint this work the gallery wasn't aware of my connections to the City. My Grandad was a Durham Miner and his brother sang in the cathedral choir. Mum was born in Durham and my Brother met his wife at Durham University where they studied together.... somewhat of a home coming for me as being born in Newcastle my spiritual roots are always in the North East.
Cristina from Florida kindly sent me an image of her painting of poppies which she had framed for her home. I love seeing where my art ends up. Real images of real homes not some photoshopped interior high end magazine image. This frame seems to match the interior woodwork perfectly and compliments the painting too.
Seeing one of my early pop art paintings was like an old friend coming home, albeit briefly.
I sold this one in 2002 and the client emailed and asked if it could be cleaned. The white had become a little dirty having been in a smoking environment..... Happy to help. Still looks good after 15 years.... great to see one of my early pieces again and the client still absolutely loves it.
Why Buy art at all?
Well it's a good question, it is however just possibly the coolest thing you will ever do.. Steve Mcqueen did and he was known as the "King of Cool!"
