I continue to paint these urban popart paintings featuring the London Underground, and I seem to be gradually working my way through the list of stations. Although that isn't my aim, if it was, I have a long way to go as there are 270 of them and goodness knows how many individual signs!
Sometimes they are placed in context with a building in the background such as with Westminster and Big Ben, other times I let the sign dominate. I always, so far at least, paint real places working from my own photography.
If you have a favourite station, perhaps one you use to commute into London from I'd be happy to create a painting based on your personal choice, Just get in touch and if you have an image to work from all even better. It's a great way to make your art personal to you.
Whichever station you choose these iconic paintings will certainly bring some urban and London style into your interior design.
I painted this large painting of the tube network some time ago. I had considered creating this as a more abstract piece leaving out the station names and other details. When I was painting it however I realised that this was an important part of the painting and potentially a very useful painting too if you wanted to map your route before leaving your apartment!
I did consider carrying it around the tube network using it to guide me through London, it would have raised a few eyebrows I'm sure as I got my not so convenient map out! As it turned out a client from Malaysia loved it and it is now hanging in his plantation house, a reminder of happy times spent in London.
